Install Nijio Free

A family looking at Nijio together on a phone

“Look, it’s a great app — I’ve already made our first family tree.”

Nijio Free is currently in its test phase and is installed
directly on your device. Google Play will follow after the test. Open this page on the Android device where you want Nijio Free; you need
Android 8.0 or newer and an internet connection.

  1. Download the app. Tap the button above. Your browser saves
the file (nijio.apk). If it warns that this kind of file can harm
your device, tap Download anyway — it’s the Nijio Free
installer. Then wait until the download notification appears.
  2. Open the file. Tap it in the download notification, or open
Files / Downloads and tap nijio.apk.
  3. Allow this one source (first time only). Android asks
whether to allow installing apps from here. Tap Settings, turn
on Allow from this source, and go back. You’re allowing the app
you downloaded from — just once.
  4. Install. Tap Install. If Play
    Protect
says the app wasn’t recognized, tap More details →
    Install anyway
. Nijio Free isn’t on Google Play yet, so your device
doesn’t recognize it — that’s expected while testing.
  5. Open Nijio Free. Tap Open and follow the
    first steps in the app.

Some devices (for example Xiaomi) add an extra security scan or ask you
to confirm once more — allow it to continue. These warnings appear only because
you’re installing outside Google Play; they don’t mean anything is wrong. Once
Nijio Free is on Google Play, installing and updating will be automatic.

A newer test version installs the same way.

Nijio Free is the free version. A personalized Nijio Premium
is also available — learn more on the Premium page.
